Photogrammetry and Geoinformation: Research awards

Mirjana Voelsen, M. Sc.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Heipke

At the annual meeting of the German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Heipke (Institute for Photogrammetry and GeoInformation) was awarded the Albrecht Meydenbauer Medal. Mirjana Voelsen, M. Sc. received an award for the best article of the year 2021 in the journal Photogrammetrie, Fernerkundung, Geoinformation (PFG).

Albrecht Meydenbauer Medaille

The head of the Institute for Photogrammetry and GeoInformation (IPI) at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Prof. Christian Heipke, was awarded the Albrecht Meydenbauer Medal at the annual meeting of the German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF) for his special achievements in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing.

Albrecht Meydenbauer (1834-1921) is considered one of the fathers of photogrammetry worldwide. He particularly developed architectural photogrammetry and coined the term photogrammetry in the 2nd half of the 19th century. In 1908 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the then Technical University Hannover.

Hansa Luftbild-Preis

Mirjana Voelsen, M.Sc. was awarded the Hansa Luftbild Prize for the best article of 2021 for her paper entitled Classification and Change Detection in Mobile Mapping LiDAR Point Clouds published with Julia Schachtschneider and Claus Brenner in the journal PFG - Photogrammetrie, Fernerkundung, Geoinformation in June 2021. The PFG is the publication outlet of the DGPF.

The purpose of the prize is to promote scientific or technical achievements in photogrammetry, remote sensing and geoinformation, especially with regard to practical applications. It has been awarded annually since 1973. In the article, Mirjana Voelsen reports on her master's thesis prepared at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics. She is now a research associate at the Institute of Photogrammetry and GeoInformation (IPI).
